My Nashville Adventure

I have just returned from Nashville, where I participated in a studio clinic through the Music Producers Institute.

The MPI is the brainchild of Grammy-winning producer Steve Fishell.  Participants are given the opportunity to observe a name artist recording tracks in a top-of-the-line studio over a three-day intensive period, and the participants’ tuition goes toward the artist’s studio time.  It’s a win-win situation, and Steve is a visionary for coming up with this idea, let alone making it happen so successfully several times a year.

The artist who was featured in the clinic I attended was Todd Snider.  As regular readers of my blog know, I think Todd is one of the most talented live performers out there.  So it was a real treat to have the opportunity to observe his studio performing and his producing as well, and my admiration for him as an artist has only deepened as a result.

I also was able to gather some new interviews for my series of in-depth conversations with successful performing musicians, which I will be posting periodically over the coming weeks.

First up will be my conversation with bluegrass (and New Grass) legend Sam Bush, so stay tuned!
